Children on the Autism Spectrum typically demonstrate reading comprehension levels that are significantly lower than their peers in grade school. Their low comprehension levels are typically attributed to their lack of motivation and interest towards the material that they are reading.
We need a method of ensuring that readers (especially students with ASD) are monitoring their comprehension of the content they read, are provided with the assistance they need to make it meaningful, and are motivated to remain interested in the reading activity long enough to enjoy the experience.
The team developed an app that would capture the child's attention and motivate them to read through a testing and rewards system that would be highly customizable. We were able to work with our clients using both a paper prototype and a rudimentary digital prototype.
